In case you are just a little to young to know who he is, the doctor portrayed in the new movie was made infamous in the 90's for his assistance in ending the lives of those who are terminally ill and in extreme pain. Acting with stringent standards, and rejecting over 90% of applicants, he saw his work as giving peace to those who had no hope and were suffering intolerably.

His work quickly drew the attention of the media, and after he appeared via tape on 60 minutes lethally injecting a patient, he was convicted of second degree murder and jailed for eight and a half years. He was released in 2007.

Now, the new HBO movie starring Pacino as Kevorkian will surely stir up talks of mercy euthanasia once more. Al talked recently to the media about his fascination with the role.

"The real zealots are rare, they go out the window. That kind of commitment, I wanted to see what that was like. There are times when you want to meet the person you're playing. With Kevorkian, I just enveloped myself in the research. I see him as a doctor who cared for his patients. A sort-of 1960s revolutionary"

"You Don't Know Jack" also stars Susan Sarandon and will air in the US on April 24.
