Want a Metroid movie? Live action Other M trailer is closest you'll get - JoBlo.com Posted: 27 Aug 2010 09:15 AM PDT A few weeks ago there was an amazing rumor about a Uwe Boll directed Metroid movie starring Jessica Simpson as Samus Aran. That would have been so astonishingly bad, I almost wish it was getting made, but alas it is not, and we'll just have to wait for the game to be turned into a proper film at some point down the road. But until then, we have this live-action trailer for Metroid: Other M, the new game for the Wii which is supposed to be pretty damn cool. The live-action bit seems to be all the rage on many new video game trailers as after Halo ODST did it and it went viral, other games are now following suit. This one is cool, but the monsters look a bit cartoonish to be matched up with a real life Samus. As for the game itself? It's kind of a bummer that Metroid is a Nintendo property, as it must be constrained by the Wii's shitty graphics. This usually isn't a problem for their other cartoonish franchises, but Metroid could be graphically stunning if it wanted to be. But hopefully the gameplay is excellent, and this will be a reason to dust off the system. Tudors Boosts Ireland's Movie Fame - 4RFV Posted: 25 Aug 2010 08:34 AM PDT There was a lot of Los Angeles glitz at the weekend as the critically acclaimed US television series The Tudors picked up two prestigious Emmy awards for Outstanding Costumes For A Series (for Joan Bergin) and Outstanding Art Direction For A Single-Camera Series (for Tom Conroy), at the 62nd Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards which took place in LA over the weekend. The Tudors, starring Irish Golden Globe winner Jonathan Rhys Meyers as Henry VIII, focuses on the turbulent years of his near 40-year reign as the King of England and has been shot entirely on location in Ireland over the last three years. This is the third Emmy Award for Costume Designer Joan Bergin and her team, having been nominated in the same category for the last four consecutive years. Joan and Wardrobe Supervisor Susan Cave, beat off stiff competition from U.S TV hit shows Glee, The Good Wife, Mad Men and 30 Rock at the ceremony. Joan has previously worked on feature films including Veronica Guerin and In The Name Of The Father, and has been awarded two IFTAs and received three nominations at the Costume Designer Guild Awards in the U.S for her work on the show. This is the first Emmy Award for Production Designer Tom Conroy, who has been nominated twice before in the category of Outstanding Art Direction and this time was up against True Blood, Heroes, Lost, Glee and Modern Family. Tom has previously worked on successful Irish films Intermission and Breakfast on Pluto among many others and has scooped an IFTA in 2007 for The Tudors as well as a nomination for Excellence in Production Design at the Art Directors Guild. A number of Irish directors have worked on the show including Emmy award-winner Dearbhla Walsh (Little Dorritt), IFTA winner Ciaran Donnelly (George Gently). Broadcast on the Showtime channel in the US, the first series of The Tudors opened to the largest audience ever received by a Showtime series in the history of the channel, highlighting some of the Ireland's most beautiful and historical tourist locations to millions of viewers worldwide, providing promotional opportunities for Tourism Ireland to exploit Ireland as a tourist destination. The fourth and final series of the show was broadcast earlier this year. The Tudors is produced by the Showtime Network in the US, and is co-produced by Morgan O'Sullivan and James Flynn of World 2000 Entertainment. It is an official Irish/Canadian co-production and is co-financed by the IFB, Showtime and Peace Arch Entertainment. The Emmy Awards are considered one of the most prestigious international awards for television entertainment and are regarded as the television equivalent to the Academy Awards for film. Apple Bows Revamped Set-Top-Box With Movie, TV Streams - Home Media Magazine Posted: 01 Sep 2010 02:02 PM PDT By : Erik Gruenwedel | Posted: 01 Sep 2010 As expected, Apple Inc. Sept. 1 officially unveiled a downsized edition of the AppleTV, which for the first time offers users digital access to rental streams of new-release movies and TV programs. Movies, priced from $3.99 for high-definition ($2.99 standard-definition), and TV programming priced at 99-cents per episode, can be rented — not bought — for a 24-hour viewing window. Content can be searched via title or genre, with a short review, trailer and ratings available from RottenTomatoes.com. The new AppleTV, which retails for $99 compared with $299 (now $130) for the previous edition that first launched in 2006, also offers YouTube videos, music, photos and streaming for Netflix subscribers, among other features. In addition to acting as a conduit between the Internet and the television, AppleTV can access content from the iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch, with the portable devices doubling as remote controls through a free app. Separately, Apple bowed a new line of iPods, including a revamped Nano model with a touchscreen. Apple's success with the iPhone, iPod and iPad should help it catapult consumer awareness of Web-enabled living room devices, according to iSuppli Corp. The El Segundo, Calif.-based research firm said AppleTV must still contend with a host of competing players, including Web-enabled Blu-ray Disc players, video game consoles (Xbox, PlayStation and Wii) from Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo, respectively. In addition, movies and TV programming can be streamed via a variety of media players from Roku, Seagate and Western Digital and the forthcoming Boxee Box from D-Link Corp. Video-on-demand of new release movies is also available from Walmart-owned Vudu, Amazon VOD and Blockbuster On Demand — all accessed through a variety of devices, including a growing number of Internet-connected TVs. Indeed, sales of Internet-enabled TVs will climb to 27.7 million units globally this year, compared with 12.3 million in 2009, according to iSuppli. Eric Wold, analyst with Merriman Curhan Ford in New York, inclusion of Netflix on AppleTV will undoubtedly benefit the service's long-term growth potential, but not much more. "Given this [is] the exact same streaming service already available on any computer, set-top box connected TV, Internet enabled TV, numerous Blu-ray players, all three major video game consoles, the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch — we see the incremental gains to be minimal," Wold wrote in a note. The analyst said the impact of AppleTV on Redbox is a non-event. "We continue to believe that Redbox's $1-per-night price point [versus] $2.99 to $3.99 digital rentals, will outweigh convenience with consumers — especially in this economic environment," Wold wrote. Top Ten Fall Movie Favorites that Will Pack Movie Theatres - Associated Content Posted: 30 Aug 2010 02:40 PM PDT 4.Life As We Know It will be a touching comedy. This movie will be released October 8. This movie centers on a baby and two people who don't like each other. It stars Katherine Heigl and Josh Dumel as a couple who go on a blind date. The date doesn't go well; therefore, they plan never to see each other again. However, when they are asked to raise their god-daughter, Sophie, plans change. This movie could be sweet and dramatic. I put this movie on the list because I like Katherine Heigl. 5. Tron Legacy seems like a sequel. This science fiction movie is based on a 1980s video game. The 80s movie also dealt with someone being pulled into a fantasy adventure game. That is why Tron Legacy seems like a sequel. It is due for release on December 17 and it stars Jeff Bridges. This movie will be a hit because it will have many special effects. Also, movies based on video games tend to do well at the box office. I put this movie on the list because it looks like a thrilling movie. 6. Little Fockers is bound to be funny. This comedy stars Ben Stiller and Robert DeNiro. It will be released on December 22. It is a sequel to Meet the Parents and Meet the Fockers. The plot centers on Robert DeNiro's character thinking, once again that Ben Stiller's character isn't smart. This movie will be a hit because it is released during Christmas time and Ben Stiller is somewhat funny. 7. The King's Speech is about a real king. This historical drama will be released on November 24. It stars Colin Firth as King George, VI and Geoffrey Rush as his speech therapist. A speech therapist is hired to help the king lose his lisp. He must lose his lisp to rule England more effectively. I think that this film could be a hit or a miss depending on if people like period films. I put this movie on the list because I like historical films. 8. Secretariat is about a racehorse. This true story will be released October 8. It stars Diane Lane, Fred Thompson, and John Malkovich. This is the story of a remarkable woman named Penny Chenery who buys a racehorse. The horse's name is Secretariat. This horse, against all odds wins the Triple Crown. This movie could be an Oscar contender. It will be a hit because moviegoers love sports films. I put this on the list because I like Diane Lane and horses.
