Movie Gallery selling brands, like Hollywood Video - Associated Press

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Rental video chain Movie Gallery is selling off its store brands Hollywood Video, Movie Gallery and Game Crazy as part of its bankruptcy proceedings.

A federal bankruptcy judge in Richmond on Monday approved an auction for its brand names, Internet domain names and customer databases. The auction being handled by advisory firm Streambank is set for Nov. 9.

A hearing to confirm the results of the auction is scheduled for Nov. 15 in Richmond.

Movie Gallery was once the nation's second largest video and game rental chain with more than 4,000 stores in the U.S. and Canada. It was based in Dothan, Ala., then Wilsonville, Ore.

It filed for bankruptcy in February as its retail sales slipped against Netflix's mail-order business, DVD kiosks and Internet-based services.

Zach Galifianakis lined up for new Muppet movie? - Den Of Geek

Few things for this writer can match the disappointment of sitting through Muppets From Space and watching it unravel the fine work that had been done by both The Muppet Christmas Carol and Muppet Treasure Island beforehand. It was the last time that The Muppets were allowed on a cinema screen, and it's taken some time for the greenlight to be given for their return.

However, next month, production begins on a brand new Muppet film that's been written by Jason Segel (along with Nicholas Stoller), who will also star. He's going to be joining Amy Adams, Rashida Jones and Chris Cooper in the cast, with James Bobin, of Flight Of The Conchords fame, calling the shots.

And the latest addition to the cast looks like being Zach Galifianakis. He's in talks to join the film, it's being reported at Entertainment Weekly, in what looks like being a cameo role. The news was actually revealed by Robert Downey Jr, who's on the promotional trail for his new comedy, Due Date.

The brand new Muppet film is set for release in the US on December 25th 2011. Here's hoping that it captures the spirit of what made The Muppets at their peak so great. And once Galifianakis is confirmed, we'll let you know...

Hold your bloomin' 'orses Mister! Treasure Island was a desperately gag-free sentimental Disney-fied outrage (even the glorious Tim Curry couldn't save it) whilst Muppets from Space was far more in keeping with the anarchic spirit of the first two films. It had some great gags (Pepe and his subliminal messages, the security bear), an excellent stooge (Larry Sanders' Jeffrey Tambor) and an excellent soundtrack (James Brown, George Clinton) which was far more in keeping with the sound of the Electric Mayhem Band than the travesty of the hideous West End cack that Treasure Island and *shudder* Muppet Wizard of OZ spewed onto the screen. Yes, 'Movie' and 'Caper' and 'Carol' had orchestral scores but they all had Paul 'Bugsy Malone' Williams' hand in them, and were leagues above most soundtracks. I agree that Christmas Carol (and the first two) are stone cold classics, but seriously take another look at Muppets from Space', it's been unfairly maligned for a long time now and is due a reassessment. I am now off to reassess my own life as it seems to have become quite apparent whilst writing this that I know far too much about the cinematic history of the Muppets for a man of my age.

The film, which has Kenny Ortega attached to direct, is reportedly at the center of bidding war among GK Films, Fox 2000, Summit Entertainment and Lionsgate/Mandate.

keeps becoming inspiration even after he passed away. A movie is being fashioned around his groundbreaking hit song "Thriller" and has been shopped around over the last few weeks by Real Effects Entertainment, Deadline Hollywood reports.

A number of studios like Fox 2000, Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment are said vying the rights to make the movie, with GK Films allegedly the frontrunner to win the bidding war. The movie has Kenny Ortega, who made Jackson's documentary "", attached to serve behind the lens and reportedly will be budgeted at under $50 million.

Plot details of "" are not known yet but it may deal with the song's folklore, which involves horror actor Vincent Price and the town he grew up in.

Additionally, says Ivan Reitman and Tom Pollock are looking to make a movie revolving around Jackson's early years, while Cirque du Soleil are in talks to do two live shows based on the late singer's music.
