LOS ANGELES, Jan. 8 (UPI) -- Eminem is considering a movie project, which would be his first since the 2002 "8 Mile," based on his life in the Detroit area, a spokesman for the rapper says.

But a statement from Eminem spokesman Dennis Dennehy warns "Random Acts of Violence" could go the way of many Hollywood projects into oblivion, the Detroit Free Press reported Saturday. The 20th Century Fox project would be directed by David Von Ancken, based on his own script.

"Eminem's producing team, including his manager Paul Rosenberg, have been developing this project for some time," the statement said. "Everyone involved hopes that it comes to fruition and the film goes into production, but as of right now nothing is set in stone and there is no firm start date."

The rapper would play a recently released prisoner faced with a choice of cooperating with the FBI against his former associates or returning to his old ways.

Eminem, born Marshall Bruce Mathers III 38 years ago, moved to Warren, Mich., with his mother when he was 12.
