South Korean director makes movie on iPhone - AZCentral.com Posted: 10 Jan 2011 06:09 AM PST Jan. 10, 2011 07:09 AM SEOUL, South Korea - Acclaimed South Korean film director Park Chan-wook has discovered a new cinematic tool: the iPhone. The director of South Korean movies "Old Boy," "Lady Vengeance" and "Thirst," said Monday that his new fantasy-horror film "Paranmanjang" was shot entirely on Apple Inc.'s iconic smartphone. "Paranmanjang" means a "life full of ups and downs" in Korean. It is about a man transcending his current and former lives. Park told reporters the new technology created strange effects because it is new but also a medium the audience is used to. Park made the 30-minute film with his younger brother Park Chan-kyong, also a director. Broadway’s ‘Memphis’ to Be Shown in Movie Theaters - New York Times Blogs Posted: 13 Jan 2011 11:56 AM PST PATRICK HEALY By "Memphis," the 2010 Tony Award winner for best musical, will be filmed next week in high definition and then released in movie theaters starting in the spring, press representatives for the show said on Thursday. The movie endeavor, rare for a Broadway production, is being timed to help draw attention to a coming national tour of the show, as well as to the run that is now in its second year in New York. Broadway Worldwide, a production company that has made similar live-in-performance movies of "Smokey Joe's Cafe" and other shows, will use multiple high definition cameras and 96 tracks of sound recording at the Jan. 18-21 performances to film the musical. The edited result will be show in theaters. Don Roy King, who frequently directs "Saturday Night Live," and Matt Kaplowitz, a longtime sound producer, will lead the team for Broadway Worldwide. The "Memphis" film will include the show's stars, Chad Kimball and Montego Glover, who were both nominated for lead acting Tony Awards and remain in the Broadway production.
