We reported a few days ago that Tom Cruise revealed he is working on a film based off his Les Grossman character and today some new information has come forth directly from the studio.

Paramount Pictures and MTV Films announced today that they are set to develop a movie around mega-producer Les Grossman. The announcement comes on the heels of Grossman's groundbreaking and visionary production of the soon-to-be Emmy award-winning 2010 MTV Movie Awards Sunday night. Tom Cruise, along with Ben Stiller and Stuart Cornfeld of Red Hour Films will produce and have secured the life rights to Grossman.

Grossman, best known as a mega producer, has most recently mentored talents such as Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner. In 2008, Grossman was introduced to the masses by Stiller in the comedy Tropic Thunder where the famed producer had a cameo playing himself.

Said Ben Stiller: "Les Grossman's life story is an inspiring tale of the classic human struggle to achieve greatness against all odds. He has assured me he plans to quote, 'F**king kill the sh*t out of this movie and make Citizen f**king Kane look like a piece of crap home movie by the time we are done.' I am honored to be working with him."

When asked what the screenplay was about Grossman responded: "To quote my great friend Kirk Lazarus, 'I don't read the script, the script reads me.'"Adam Goodman, Paramount Film Group President said, "Everything I learned in this business, I've learned from Les. I started out as his assistant, and from the first day he threw his desk at me when I got his lunch order wrong, I have loved him like a father. I am forever grateful to Ben and Stuart Cornfeld and their ability to secure his highly-coveted life rights." Tom Cruise is said to be in talks to portray Grossman in the film. Michael Bacall (Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World) will write the script.

City Times takes to the multiplexes to find out what's in store for movie buffs this week

The A-Team

'THERE IS NO Plan B' proudly asserts the tag line of this weekend's eagerly awaited release, action-adventure film The A-Team.

Helmed by director Joe Carnahan (Smokin' Aces), the feature stars actors Liam Neeson, Bradley Cooper, Quinton Jackson, Sharlto Copley and Jessica Biel.

A revival of the widely popular, and equally successful, NBC television series of the same name, the plot of The A-Team follows a band of fictional former American soldiers from the US Army Special Forces that are implicated for a crime they did not commit.

Now dubbed war criminals the three escape from military prison, team up with their pilot H.M. Murdock (Copley) and turn mercenaries, concerned with helping the oppressed.

Unfortunately, if you happen to be a die-hard fan of the original series then film critics claim that you're in for the disappointment of a lifetime.

Early reviews of the 117-minute film dismiss it for including audacious action sequences. Although the film has been praised for keeping faithful to the original series, Mr. T, the original B.A. Baracus, berated The A-Team for emphasising too much on "sex and violence".

Dirk Benedict, again a member of the original cast, also complained that his cameo in the film was cut down to a blink-and-miss appearance.

Trivia:

· Woody Harrelson, Ryan Reynolds, Ice Cube and Bruce Willis were all considered for roles in the film.

· Mr. T. was originally offered a cameo in The A-Team movie, however, after his refusal, Dirk Benedict agreed to do one.

She's Out of My League

LABELLED THE SLEEPER hit of the season, goofy romantic comedy She's Out of My League finally puts actor Jay Baruchel – who's so far been seen in short roles in movies such as Tropic Thunder, Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist and Knocked Up – in the lead. Starring alongside Baruchel in this flick directed by Jim Field Smith is British actress Alice Eve.

In She's Out of My League, a single, excessively shy airport security officer Kirk (Baruchel) who suffers from low self-esteem ends up in a relationship with the attractive and uber confident Molly (Eve).

However, as friends, family and situations hack away at his morale, Kirk's romance with Molly deteriorates.

So far the 105-minute film seems to have played host to a positive response from prominent critics. Peter Bradshaw writes in his review for The Guardian that "There's nothing too revolutionary in this movie, but it rattles amiably along, with plenty of laughs".

Meanwhile, Frank Scheck of The Hollywood Reporter labels the film as one that "threatened to be yet another routine exercise in raunchiness" but instead "turns out to be a sweet, charming, hilariously funny love story."

Trivia:

· Molly's parents in She's Out of My League are played by actress Alice Eve's real parents Trevor Eve and Sharon Maughan.

· Lindsay Sloane, who plays Baruchel's ex-girlfriend in the film, played the role of his sister in the television series The Stones.

Also releasing this weekend is 2009 psychological horror The Haunting in Connecticut, which did relatively well at both the US box office and in terms of DVD sales, 2009 comedy drama The Joneses, directed by Derrick Borte featuring Demi Moore and David Duchovny and 2008 Chinese live-action film Kung Fu Dunk.

Hollywood actress Sandra Bullock has signed on to star in "Most Wanted" opposite Ryan Reynolds, her leading man from "The Proposal," Variety said.

"Proposal" director Anne Fletcher is in talks to direct "Wanted," an action comedy in which Bullock would play a criminal and Reynolds a federal marshal, who are forced to go on the run together when they're ambushed on the way to court, the entertainment industry trade newspaper said.

The deal reportedly is Bullock's first since winning an Oscar last March for her work in "The Blind Side."

Source: Lindsay Lohan's alcohol ankle-monitor went off after MTV Movie Awards - Newser

The alert could result in another appearance by Lohan before a judge whose patience has worn thin with the actress for repeated missteps during her probation. Judge Marsha Revel and Lohan's attorney Shawn Chapman Holly were to meet in the judge's chambers Tuesday afternoon.

It remained unclear why the bracelet went off. The source, who was not authorized to speak publicly, told The Associated Press that Los Angeles Superior Court Marsha Revel would receive a report on the alert soon.

Chapman Holley, said she was looking into whether a violation may have occurred. The bracelet is designed to test the skin for alcohol every half hour by sampling a person's perspiration.

Lohan has been required to wear an alcohol monitor since May 24, when she appeared before Revel days after missing a court hearing. The "Mean Girls" star is due back in court on July 6 when the judge will decide whether Lohan, 23, violated her probation because of her missed appearance.

A violation could result in Lohan being sent to jail.

Revel refused to ease Lohan's drug and alcohol testing restrictions at the May hearing and ordered the starlet to wear the alcohol monitor.

Deputy District Attorney Danette Meyers, who is handling Lohan's case, said she was aware of "an issue" that would come to the court's attention, but did not have further details.

Lohan appeared at the MTV awards show on Sunday. She also attended at least one of the show's after-parties.

She covered up the ankle monitor on the show's red carpet by wearing long pants.

The actress has been on probation since August 2007 after pleading guilty to misdemeanor drug charges and no contest to three driving charges.

Despite spending 84 minutes in jail and performing mandatory service at the county morgue, Lohan has repeatedly struggled with the terms of her sentence. In October, a judge extended her probation for another year but Meyers warned the actress she was facing jail time if she violated her probation.

The extension was the third time Lohan escaped punishment after her alcohol-education program notified the court the actress had violated its rules. Two of the instances were described as misunderstandings; the third was chalked up to a busy work schedule.

Chapman Holley said Lohan missed the hearing last month because her passport had been stolen while the actress was at the Cannes Film Festival.
